How long did it take you to learn Fur Elise on the piano?

I’m trying to learn it now. I’m not the best at reading notes, but it’s easy for me to play by memory (knowing which keys to play without looking at the sheet). I’m doing good on the beginning, but the middle is really starting to trip me up. I’m not taking lessons. All I have is a song book and a few beginner lesson books.

I didn’t actually ever learn it, as that was one of the pieces that my teacher wouldn’t let any of her students play. Then again, as a teacher, I don’t let any of my students play it either. Just looking at the piece though…if you are struggling to read it, I’m guessing it’ll take you 3-6 months. You should really wait awhile to learn it if you’re just learning to read music. Especially with any piece of substance, you should have a qualified teacher guiding you, because I guarantee you that without an instructors guidance, you are developing bad habits. So, find a teacher to help you with it, if that’s what you really have your heart set on playing!
